Windows Live coming to MCE?

Codename Nemo: Windows Live meets Media Center:

Codename Nemo is designed to be an add-on for Windows Vista (Home Premium and Vista Ultimate editions), that integrates Spaces, Messenger and Live Call into a UI designed for large monitors and TVs. Nemo essentially creates a Windows Live Media Center, and is optimized for use by Microsoft Media Center remote, as well as keyboard. Of particular note is the 3D Gallery view for browsing Windows Live Spaces, shown below, presumably built using the new Windows Presentation Foundation that will be included in Windows Vista.

See, it’s not the end of the world that we removed Messenger from Media Center on Vista :). Here’s a screenshot:

I was very disappointed to see it was written in WPF and looks like a separate application to Media Center. But from a comment on my blog i got, it looks like its written in MCML which is much better news

I’m happy to see it back. hopefully its not just a seperate app and actually uses the api to tie into the whole thing like the old messanger did.

Personally, I like this method of development better. Get the people that best know the product they are integrating to make the integration. let the people that best know the product being integrated into to provide the missing api pieces that everyone will benefit from.

I’m getting hte warm and fuzzies again.

    Hey Matt,
I know this is a bit off topic, but a while back you responded to a question of mine regarding the ability to disable the “delete” option in media center. You mentioned that the “media only” mode would allow that and that you would cover that in another article.

I have now had the oppurtunity to play around a bit with Vista but find no way to disable the delete option, even with the “media only” mode.

I really hope the option does exist somewhere, so I don’t risk losing holiday photos and family videos because someone pressed delete by mistake.

    Any thoughts?

Rather than adding new features, I sure wish they’d fix the bugs. For me, fixing sub-channels for HDTV in the EPG is a lot more important.
