Getting changers to work in Beta 2
To get your DVD changer to work with Windows Vista Beta 2 you need to be running Media Center ‘elevated. To do this:
- Bring up Windows start menu
- Right click on Windows Media Center
- Choose ‘Run as Administrator’
If you don’t want to do this every time you run MCE you can disable ‘UAC’ by launching the control panel and type ‘UAC’ into search and it will bring up the setting to turn it off.
Yes, we’re fixing this for RTM :).
I tried with beta 2 and it worked. But with Vista build 5456 beta 2 it doesnt work (Runas Admin for MCE). I have the Sony XL1B Dvd Changer. Any ideas?
great site, tons of info.
Thanks
Yeah, we have some new bugs there :).
If you press the DVD Menu button or CTRL-SHIFT-M it should take you to the DVD library…
Nice, however, I notice that there is STILL no MC360 functionality for the Sony XL1B DVD changer. I was assuming this was getting “fixed” in Vista, is this not the case?
Without the ability to watch my MCE DVD library, on the Xbox 360, the Extender is essentially useless. This is a HUGE problem. Many, MANY customers would like to have a rack mount MCE system, serving video to Media center extenders throughout the house.
If I (illegally) rip my extensive DVD collection to hard drive, I can use the Xbox 360 to watch the movies. Why the hell do I have to resort to this? I should be able to use my rather expensive MCE system and DVD changer to do this legally!
If this doesn’t get fixed, everyone will switch to the first open source solution that does!
I did a little digging and got my DVD Changer (Sony XL1B) to work in Vista 5456.
Enable the DVD Changer. Load up regedit.exe and find this key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\DvdSettings]. Double click on it and change “ShowGalleryâ€=â€Unknown†to “ShowGalleryâ€=â€Galleryâ€.
Works like gem.
Hey Chad - not sure what the change to the registry key is - could you please send it again.
Also does anyone know if multiple changes are working better than in MCE 2005 (in MCE 2005, when you try to manage your jukes, only the last one will show up on under manage discs in my dvd’s
Is it possible to use the ShowGallery Reg Hack to allow the “DVD Library” accessible from a MCE Extender like the integrated Xbox 360. At this stage I am having no luck.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\DvdSettings]
“ShowGallery”=”Gallery”
I have enabled this hack for the MCX1 User, but it doesn’t update the UI unlike whilst running under Windows.
At this stage I have been converting my DVD collection to WMV which streams fine, but would prefer the DVD Library (VOB only required) capability if possible. I am also looking at “My Movies” and Transcode, however the built-in DVD Library capability looks pretty cool without 3rd party integration.
Thanks
Nope… Sorry.
Matt,
Is there a way to instruct the Sonly XL1 200 DVD changer via VBA? The changer is attached to Sony’s XL1 media center PC running XP Professional.
I represent a not-for-profit public access television facility located in Milford, CT.
I would like to instruct the changer to select disk 15 (or any disk from 1-200) in the changer, and then start playing the disk. Next, send an ‘Enter’ keystroke to the console to start the disk playing the content.
I would like to develop an MS Access 2003 application that would playback disks on a pre-set schedule.
I am a programmer with 20+ years of IT experience.
Do you know, or do you know someone that would know how to do this?
Thanks!
