FAQ: If I install WMP 11 Beta Will It…?

I’ve been asked a few times if installing the WMP 11 Beta will improve the performance of the music library in Media Center Edition 2005. Unfortunately the answer is no. However, if you install the Windows Vista Beta 2 you can see the improvements. I’d also love to hear from anyone who has compared the music library performance between MCE 2005 and Windows Vista. Did it improve? Did it improve enough?

No, but it *might* fry your LCD monitor!!! After I installed WMP 11 Beta + URGE on my XP SP2 machine I noticed that when WMP is open my screensaver never started and worse it completely ignored my power settings to turn off my LCD after 20 minutes.

There really is nothing like having your two LCD monitors with the exact same image burning into them for 24 hours.

I also noticed that when WMP 11 works it works fast but that it often just plain chokes if you haven’t given it focus for awhile. Say you’ve been streaming a radio station or playing an album while working in VS2005, then switch back over to browse around URGE or see your library… it will sometimes take up to two minutes for it become responsive again.

Ehrmm.. No. LCD monitors don’t “fry”. That quality is reserved for CRT and Plasma screens. It is one of the big benefits of LCD.

lcd monitors can “fry”, but will recover (if you’re lucky) - my samsung did.

I’ve seen burned in LCD images before in store fronts that leave their screens on 24/7.

I’ve never seen a burned in LCD screen. I leave static images on my dual LCD’s at work all the time, often for a weekend. No sign of burn-in after a year.

I really wouldn’t worry about it.
