Turn on My TV without a tuner

If you don’t have a tuner but want to turn on My TV because you have DVR-MS files from another source I setting this reg key equal to 1 will do the trick: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\TVConfig\iVideoSource

[…] Matt Goyer posted the reg key you need to use if you want to enable the “My TV” section of Media Center without having a TV tuner.  This is useful if you have dvr-ms files that you want to use from MCE.  Thanks Matt!Matt Goyer’s Media Center Blog » Turn on My TV without a tuner […]

We just picked up a new laptop so I tried this tweak (again). Same problem as with all of the other PC’s; MCE becomes unstable and keeps locking up and crashing when trying to select recorded TV.

I would still like to find a solution, but the only one I’ve found to work I posted here:

Anyone with a solution (since the new laptop doesn’t have a PCI card…) please post it on the green button.

well i did it this way it it works for me i also opened the EPG function as well by playing around with the registry.
This is how i edited my registry.
    WARNING: use at own risk

NOTE: read the whole thing first before attempting to follow this procedure

This will enable the MY TV to appear on start menu

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\TVConfig]
    “iVideoSource”=dword:00000002
    “iBroadcastStandard”=dword:00000001
    “fHasSTB”=dword:00000000
    “fHasDVB”=dword:00000000
    “Version”=”65537″

To make the Guide work you need to edit these entries

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\ProgramGuide]
    “fAgreeEPGPrivacy”=dword:00000001
    “fAgreeTOS”=dword:00000001
    “fEpgDataAvailable”=dword:00000001
    “fGetEpgData”=dword:00000001
    “fUsageTracking”=dword:00000000
    “Version”=”65537

NOTE: For both reistry entries above edit only edit the vales shown. If a value is exactly the same DO NOT EDIT IT.

After this you will be able to see the guide feature in MY TV.

The first time you go on guide it will give you various messages such as channals not setup, guide not setup no TV Tuner device, etc. keep clicking OK.

Then you will be given an option to setup your guide with setup click that and go throught the setup process it should hopefully give you the guide it worked for me i just did this using trial and error.

Matt, I am stumped on something, I could really use your help.

The green backgrounds on the Closed Captioning in MCE2005 needs to go. Translucent green is hard on the eyes. Stock black background with white text would be so much easier. Here is the same problem, but their video card had a reg tweak inside of it:

    http://www.alldeaf.com/deaf-products-technologies/21963-wanted-closed-caption-tweak-more-options-mce2005.html

Do you know of a registry fix for this? Also stranger than fiction, my TweakMCE will not work anymore once I did a Windows update. It keeps giving me “The Media Center Power Toy can only be run [sic] on Windows Media Center Edition 2005.”

If you could help me with this, I would truly appreciate it.

    Thanks!

    Chris

Thanks, lynx, I now have the guide showing. However, I have a problem…I live in Canada, but when I go to set up the guide it says “enter zip code” (obv I don’t have one…postal code instead). How do I make MCE/the guide “Canadianized” ? Thanks
