DVD Profiler to DVDID for My DVDs

Tim’s got a post up with steps from the Green Button on adding metadata to your local DVDs in My DVDs by going from DVD Profiler to DVDID, Get the MetaData Including Cover Art for My DVD in Media Center.

64bit xvid codec?

I’m ready to transition to using a Vista Ultimate build full time at home for all my TV, music, photo needs but the one thing holding me back is that I haven’t found a 64bit xvid codec. Can anyone point me to one? Thanks!

Programming your MCE remote

Some Media Center remote controls enable you to teach them to turn on/off your TV and/or control the volume of your receiver. I love this feature and recently someone emailed asking how to set it up. Fortunately a co-worker had a manual because I couldn’t remember how to do this.

To program buttons on your MCE remote control.

  1. Place the MCE remote control head to head (2 to 3 inches apart) with the remote control from which it is learning.
  2. On the MCE remote control press and hold the DVD MENU and OK buttons at the same time until the remote control lights turn off (2 seconds). The remote is now in learning mode.
  3. On the MCE remote control press and release the TV, VOL +, VOL - button, depending on which command you want it to learn. The MCE remote control lights blink once to confirm the selection.
  4. On the remote control that is teaching the command, press and hold the button that you want the coressponding button on the MCE remote control. The MCE remote control lights blink twice to confrim the selection. If the remote does not learn the command, the lights blink quickly four times. To try again repeat steps 1 through 4.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the other buttons that can learn commands.

To restore:

  1. Press and hold the DVD MENU button and LEFT navigation button at the same time until the MCE remote control lights turn off
  2. Press the OK button. The lights will blink twice to confirm that the buttons have been reset. If not it will blink four times.

Microsoft Video Properties

Microsoft now has two video properties:

  • On10 - ‘a place for those people who want to use technology to change the world’
  • Channel 9 - Inside look at software development at Microsoft

Unfortunately neither of them have Media Center plugins allowing you to watch the content on your TV.

Programming for 360 MCX

New MSDN article, Development Considerations for Windows Media Center Extender for Xbox 360 .

It describes how to use the Xbox 360 console as a Windows Media Center Extender and discusses the considerations for Media Center developers who want to support it in their Media Center hosted HTML applications.

I see the average rating for the article is 3 out of 9. For people who rated it poorly, what would you like to improve about the article?

Channel Browser

I know that some of you are struggling to get your tuners working with the February CTP. If that’s the unfortunate case you likely haven’t seen one of the new features we added; the Channel Browser. If you have, while watching TV try hitting the up or down arrows on your keyboard / remote.

What it enables you to do is discretely browse what’s on and what’s on next while you’re watching either live TV or a recorded TV show.

This may sound odd, but I will never use this feature because I never ‘channel surf’ or watch live tv anymore. But if you do I think this feature is a great addition to our TV experience.
