Review of MCE Extender

Tim reviews his HP Media Center Extender.

Not surprisingly Tim runs into problem with remoting TV because his networking hardware isn’t on the certified list. I’d reiterate that it’s important to be using certified hardware because there is a lot of variability in equipment. Personally, I have a Netgear FWAG114 802.11a/b/g wireless router and TV works great.

Also Tim wonders:

I cant confirm it but I think HP discontinued making the extenders because they werent selling well.

I double checked this and they were not discontinued because they were not selling well. (Sorry, I can’t disclose why they were discontinued).

Sounds great, but I couldn’t find it on Newegg.

App to edit DVR-MS metadata

Ed Bott does a great job of explaining that, You CAN legally buy a copy of Media Center Edition.

Just remember, if you buy Media Center from a system builder supplier, like Newegg, you will not get any suppport (and as those of you have emailed me know, I’m awful at responding to support questions :) ).
